She Yelled at Me, Because ...
I have a headache.
My back hurts.
You may want to try acupuncture.
When talking about the acupuncture, the first thing, or the only thing, that comes to most people’s minds is the pain. Acupuncture helps pain relief – back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, headache, etc.
There was a time when I was in the middle of a conversation, a lady came by and asked, “Do you have a license? Can acupuncture treat herniated discs?” I said “Do you want to see my license, issued by Texas Medical Board? Yes, acupuncture treats herniated discs,” expecting her second question, “How?”
To my surprise, immediately following my answer, she yelled at me and said, “HOW COULD YOU!” and stormed off. Evidently, she was angry with my positive answer to her question, so she yelled. For some reason, she did not want to hear “Yes, acupuncture can treat herniated discs.”
“Unfortunately,” I received a phone call from another lady, late in December of the same year, asking the same question, “Can acupuncture treat herniated discs?” I gave this lady the same answer, “Yes.” She told me every one of her 5 lumbar discs was out of shape, either degenerated or herniated. Now, her second question was, “You said acupuncture could treat the herniated discs, but can you cure them? Can acupuncture cure herniated or degenerative discs?” The answer to her again was still a “yes.”
Lena wondered how much time it would take to cure her degenerated and herniated lumbar discs. I told her with one treatment a week, it would take about a year. Because she was in a lot of pain and did not want to wait any longer, the first session of her acupuncture was received on a Sunday, January 1st of the year. Because her low back was so painful that she had to have steroid shots every few weeks or she wouldn’t be able to walk.
Through acupuncture on the hands, feet, and back (and sometimes cupping on the back) for 7 months, she did not need shots any longer. Although she did not always have weekly treatments, after 10 months of acupuncture, she barely felt any pain in her low back. She was suggested to go back to have it checked. She came back saying her doctor told her there was nothing wrong with her lumbar discs. She kept coming for another month and the last session of acupuncture ended on December 9th of the year, because she said the low back pain was almost not there anymore. If the low back pain ever came back, she would call and make appointments again. Within 10 years after the last session, Lena did come back once for acupuncture, and it was for her knees.
Does acupuncture treat pain only? The answer is “No.”
